[There’s a string of rustling noises before Fenris replies:]

I suppose I am. What is it that you wish to discuss?

Well... seems to me you're tired of helping me out of, uh, situations, and I might be tired of needin' it. I'm not actually as helpless as all that, but it couldn't hurt to learn to fight a little better if I'm going to be in a world like this.

[ Not that his own was really less harsh altogether. But things do keep happening here. And more people actively carry around swords. ]

I am not tired of helping, I am tired of you getting yourself into dangerous situations unarmed. But I have had to learn not everybody brought here was given a lesson on how to properly use a weapon, nor were they taught how to properly asses danger.

[More tapping as he attempts to figure out how to send the message, and a swear or two in a language Faulkner has never heard before the audio cuts.]

The dangers here look different than the ones back home. And people don't all go around armed there.

[ He says this mildly. Some do, but still. It's a lot less socially acceptable. A pause. ]

Look, you want to teach me to fight better or not? It's alright if it's a no. Just figured I'd ask a couple people, the way things have been going here.

Where I am from, it's best to have at least a dagger to protect yourself. Kirkwall is full of danger, and so is the rest of the world.

[Fenris lets out a slightly irritated breath.]

I can certainly teach you, though I am not sure how good of a teacher I can be. But, why exactly do you want me to do it?

I've got a pocketknife. Guess I can pick up a dagger, though.

[ He hesitates a bit. Maybe this was a bad idea after all. ]

You're the one who keeps sayin' I ought to be armed, and you seem good in a fight, and you understand that sometimes you have to. There's others I can try askin' if you'd rather not.

[ But he did say something telling; Fenris understands that violence can be necessary. Other people do, too, of course, but he's a bit warier of bringing up the experience he does have with it, with some of them. ]

[Faulkner has a point. He is more than willing to know when a fight needs to be had. But most of his experience isn’t theoretical- it’s practical survival skills for a very specific environment.

And, he worried about what kind of trouble Richie could get into by learning how to sword fight.]

That is fair. I just worry that I am not the best teacher. Most of my skills are very specialised to why I was trained. It isn’t.. completely relevant to self defence. I shall try my best.

[If he felt that Faulkner learning was a detriment to anybody’s safety, he’d change course.]

Alright. An' I don't think you've told me much about what you were trained for.

[ It's not quite a question, but it is an opening. He'd like to know, and his tone is idle conversation like he assumes it's fine to wonder, but he won't push. ]
